Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) 2010 Volunteer Positions
Job Description
SASC is now accepting applications from committed students to join our Volunteer Team. SASC provides female, male, and trans survivors of sexual assault, as well as their friends, family members and partners with caring, free of charge, non-judgmental support. All volunteer positions report to the SASC Coordinators.
Most positions will require a commitment of 3-5 hours per month, but hours may vary according to position and needs.

Safewalkers/Safety Outreach
Job Description
SafeTeam is a student-run organization that promotes safety awareness on campus and works to integrate safety solutions by liaising with security organizations such as the RCMP, Campus Security and SUB Security. SafeTeam also promotes campus safety though community outreach and safety campaigns.
SafeTeam’s most important initiative is Safewalk, a free walking service that provides pairs of students to accompany students, staff and visitors between any two points on campus during the evening.
Walkers are required to escort people travelling on campus at night and enhance their safety and peace of mind. Walkers will also have the opportunity to work on community outreach initiatives and safety campaigns.
Duties
- Must be a currently registered UBC student
- Must be available for late night shifts
- Professional and responsible
- Outgoing, energetic, friendly and approachable
- Confident walking at night
- Knowledge of the geographic layout of campus is an asset
Job Qualifications
- Must provide a minimum of two volunteer-related references and one character reference

Safewalk Team Leaders
Job Description

Safewalk is now accepting applications from experienced Safewalk walkers for TEAM LEADERS to join our team for the 2010 term. Team leaders dispatch walkers to escort clients and deal with any incidents or situations that may arise.

- Minimum of one term experience as a Safewalk walker
- Must be available for late night shifts
- Professional, responsible, and calm under pressure
- Good conflict resolution skills
- Approachable, with demonstrated leadership skills

- A sincere interest in improving the campus community

Part-time Customer Service
Job Description
Our food and beverage department has a number of amazing opportunities available now! You will not only work in a team environment, but we will also work with you as a student and provide opportunities to work between classes and labs, allow schedule accommodation for exams and school breaks, and provide a meal allowance (minimum 3 hour shift).
To be successful in one of these amazing opportunities, you will need to be able to produce sales and profits by achieving sales goals and providing excellent customer service. You must also maintain a team-centered atmosphere by embracing the mission statement and values of the Alma Mater Society.
Duties
- Provide excellent customer and sales service
- Meet and exceed sales goals by utilizing individual and team selling techniques
- Demonstrate great product knowledge and the ability to use this knowledge as a selling tool
- Promote special services such as the recycling program and daily specials
- Receive product and supplies in relation to store needs and stores them in appropriate areas
- Demonstrate a good understanding of shelf life and is proficient in the product rotation and dating system
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the outlet
- Accurately and efficiently complete POS terminal transactions and other record-keeping procedures
- Protect store inventory by providing excellent customer service and adhering to loss prevention procedures, and by sharing any suspected policy violations with the store management
- Support and act on company directives in a timely fashion, attend company workshops and staff meetings, keep up to date on inter-store and support office memos, and promote a positive company image to all staff and the general public
- Work closely and cooperatively with the store manager, and offer feedback and suggestions to support store goals
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Flexible schedule based on business needs (evenings, weekends and holidays)
- Ability to lift up to 12 kgs
- Ability to stand for 100% of shift
- Motor skills required to pack products, general cleaning and work the POS system
